nutritional supplement

Just curious…I was talking to a girl who was reading a ficticious novel about a vampire and it got me thinking if blood really served as a nutritional supplement.

  2. Blood is very nutritious but it might have more iron than is ideal. The cattle herding Masai in Africa consume the blood of their cattle.

  4. Hehe, whilst not recommended for human consumption, you can work out how it keeps vampires going if you look at its ingredients:

plasma has 98% water content, keeping you hydrated. It also has the glucose and other useful parts of your victims’ diets, so you’re taking their energy source directly. This also include vitamins (good since vamps can’t get sunshine vitamin D ^^) White blood cells are protieny, good for growth. Red blood cells have haemoglobin, a good source of iron. In fact your own body breaks down its own red blood cells to get the iron.

  5. Blood is composed of a liquid portion and a cellular portion (red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets). The liquid portion (plasma) contains dissolved sugars, proteins, vitamins, minerals, etc. The red blood cells are made of protein and iron. So from the view of a vampire, yes it could be served as a nutritional supplement. Blood could be a nutritional supplement, but it is so nutritious that bacteria grow well in blood. So blood would have to be cooked or boiled (of course it would not stay as a drink because it will clot or clump).

  6. Fake vampirism which is involved with the ingestion of physical bodily fluids is a highly dangerous and unhealthy practice risking infection, the transmission of disease and even the potential for blood loss or nerve damage due to artificial incisions with needles and razor blades.

Contrary to popular myth amongst the blood drinking pseudo vampire community, blood is not a nutritious thing to consume. The human body actually is not set up to properly digest blood and you can get ill from it.

Some individuals suffer from a vitamin or mineral deficiency that makes them desire to eat odd things such as chalk or paper and this same order of deficiency might cause one to think they need to drink blood.

Blood is not and should not be considered a nutritional supplement.
